4 Tips For Getting Back In The Dating Pool After A Divorce

2 min read

Divorce can be extremely difficult, but often it is very necessary in order for one or both parties involved to move on and really live their best lives. No matter how heartbroken you are, it’s important to remember that time heals all wounds and you will eventually feel better.

Dating may be the last thing on your mind immediately following a divorce, and it’s certainly OK to take as much time as you need to get back out there. That being said, once you do start dating again there are things you can do to make the transition a little easier. Here are 4 tips for reentering the dating pool after a divorce.

Forget Your Age

Divorces come in all shapes and sizes and at all ages and stages of life. No matter how old you are, the last thing you need to worry about is how much time you have left which may cause you to settle for someone less than what you want or rush into things that aren’t good for you.

It doesn’t matter if you’re reaching retirement age or fresh out of college when you decide to jump back into dating. You should always put yourself first and make good choices when it comes to your partners.

Go Slow

Quickly moving right back into another serious relationship after a divorce is one of the worst things you can do for your mental health and your future relationships. Taking it slow is the best way to ease back into dating so that you feel more comfortable.

Go at your own pace and move as slowly as you need to when it comes to dating. Your prospective partners should be understanding about this if you are honest with them, and if they aren’t, they’re not right for you anyway!

Learn From The Past

Learning from your past mistakes is really helpful when it comes to dating again. If you look at what went wrong in your marriage and the part you may have had in that, it will be less likely to happen again in your future relationships. You may also be able to see red flags in retrospect that you will now know to look for in partners, helping you to avoid future heartbreak.

Lean On Your Friends

Hanging out with friends and venting to them is helpful in healing the pain that comes along with a divorce, but it can also aid in getting you back out there dating-wise. You may have single friends who can give you pointers about dating in the modern age, or perhaps you can go out and meet people together. Either way, leaning on your friends is one of the best things you can do during this time.

Going through a divorce is never fun, but dating for the first time in a long time can be! Use these tips to make this lifestyle change less awkward and see what happens!
